Hi. My husband has just been diagnosed with bladder cancer. Felt like a gut punch last week when consultant went straight in talking about bladder removal. In process of educating ourselves ready for tomorrow’s treatments discussion.

  • Hi  and welcome to the group although sorry to hear your husband has been diagnosed with bladder cancer. We all know what a shock it comes as and the early days of uncertainty and not knowing can be the worst. The doctors will always mention bladder removal but try not to focus on that. It sounds early days and there are various treatments. Has your husband been given a stage and grade ? Lots of varying experiences here so always some one here to answer questions. If you have a meeting scheduled for tomorrow, you will find out a lot more. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Thanks for your reply. No stage/grade yet. One of many questions on my list for tomorrow.

  • Hi  . Take notebook with you and jot down some notes. It is so easy to forget what has been said as soon as you leave the room. Also ask to be copied in to the meeting notes. It is easier to understand things when in black and white. I hope all goes well. Best wishes.

  • Hi Shaz678. If it turns out the cancer is muscle invasive, then bladder removal [often abbreviated to rc for radical cystectomy] is one obvious course. However in our experience some surgeons push it even when the cancer is non  muscle invasive [nmibc]. Also besides BCG and rc there is another treatment for nmibc, this is Mitomycin chemo-into-the-bladder. [So no hair loss or nausea]This worked really well for my OH. Just saying.

    Hope all goes well tomorrow,
