Hi, I was diagnosed with bladder cancer by phone call on 13th July.
I was admitted on the 25th for a day case TURBT, the tumour was found to be very large and blocking the ureter, subsequently only a partial removal was done.
On the 28th July I was taken for a stent to be inserted but this couldn’t be done either and a Nephrostomy was performed instead, this procedure knocked me for six and in all, I spent 6 days in hospital. I’ve had the nephrostomy in place for 5 weeks now.
I’m scheduled to be admitted on Tuesday (5th September) for another TURBT and I hope the removal of nephrostomy and a stent inserted BUT I really have no idea what is going on.
When will I get any information on what sort of cancer and whether it has spread and what the future holds?
My husband and family are brilliant but I am feeling very alone and sorry for myself today.
The whole experience has been traumatic and I’m fed up with wearing a ‘brave face’ and being positive!
Sorry for the pity party.
Hi Weegel and welcome to the group. No need to apologise for anything. We all understand and know where you are coming from. Sorry to hear about your nephrostomy complications. Lack of information is a regular topic on here. Some doctors are more forthcoming than others. You would have normally got some feedback after your first TURBT, but maybe because they could not get it all first time, they are waiting for your follow up to get a better diagnosis. Always ask to be copied in to the notes of any meetings or procedures. It makes more sense when you can see it in black and white. Always someone here to talk if you feel a bit down. I hope all goes well with your TUTBT, Best wishes.
Hi Weegel,Welcome to this friendly group. It sounds like you have been through a lot since diagnosis and it’s understandable that you are fed up.The early days waiting to hear about the next step are never easy.Hopefully this next TURBT will give your team more information and a plan of action.Don’t feel you have to be positive all the time as that can heap extra pressure on you which you don’t need. It’s natural to feel depressed, tearful, angry, anxious etc. Most people tend to feel better once they have a treatment plan in place.Best wishes for your TURBT and post here anytime,we will all try and support you.Love Jane
