Hi, my dad was diagnosed with bladder cancer in April of this year. He had the TURBT operation in May which went well and where the surgeon removed a lot of the high grade cancer - it was Stage 3 I think. We thought he would have BCG but following an infection and (we think) a complication with another condition (chronic epididymis) he has been referred to an oncologist. Howeverfollowing a chest scan 10 days ago, he has been admitted to hospital as nodules were found on his lungs. Blood tests also revealed high calcium in his blood so bone cancer was mentioned too (although my dad has an underlying condition which affects his calcium so I really think it could be this) He’s been in hospital for 8 nights now and at the moment can’t walk (we think this is the epididymis not the cancer). We had an appointment at the Christie for this Friday where we were really hoping for a full diagnosis and to discuss treatment but an oncology nurse visited my dad in hospital yesterday and said they were deferring the appointment until he was better and out of hospital. I feel so confused and upset as we still don’t know what we are facing and I’m now not sure how we will get a full diagnosis. I just wondered if anyone else has had a similar experience. My dad is 78 and has always been so fit and healthy x thank you so much in advance xx
Hi Scs. It looks like you posted in the small hours; not surprising, you have plenty to be anxious about. So just having seen your post, I want to say welcome to this friendly group. Always feel free to vent, what your dad is going through is challenging.
Hope you get some better info from the medics soon. You will certainly get support here. Also you can ring the Macmillan helpline 8am to 8pm, they might have some good advice about questions to ask and how to push for answers.
Best, Denby

Thank you so much for your reply. I think you are spot on. We discovered yesterday that he’s got quite a nasty infection so everything is being done to get this under control and then hopefully we can get him home to build him back up a bit before the next steps. Thank you xxx
