New to this group was diagnosed today growth on bladder next step TURBT

I new what was coming so was not such a big shock

hoping to get some comfort from people who know exactly how I'm feeling and maybe exchange helpful information

  • Hi Anyastar, just to say welcome to this group. It is very friendly and there's usually an answer from someone to most questions. I think my best tip is to be prepared to keep yourself busy after the TURBT so you don't needlessly upset yourself waiting for the lab result and treatment choices.

    Kind regards,

  • Hello know the feeling had turbt procedure 2 week ago know were near as bad as I imagined went for epidural instead of a general glad I did kept informed thru out can honestly said. Only felt slight sting for the epidural followed by antiseptic cold spray lasted vouple of seconds no pain during or after procedure

After 4hrs on ward able to go home thou I had a catherter for 10days coped well with it. Removed by district nurse no pain quick trip to hospital for a scan to ensure bladder working OK.

Just the wait for results now  so fingers crossed  I wish you well be positive one step at a time

  • Hi Anyastar,Welcome to this friendly supportive group.Wishing you well for your TURBT.Jane x

  • Hi Anyastar

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis.

I found the TURBT operation not too bad, I've had two since 21st December 2022 and was knocked out for both.

I've been very well looked after and I'm sure you will be also.

This group has helped me massively, just getting other people's experiences first hand does make a difference for sure.

It's a very worrying time, and I don't know what is around the corner, but I've gone from "how long do I have left" to I'm going to get through this.

I wish you all the best.

    BFG

  • Thank you BFG for the info

I'm 73 so I would say they are more than likely to operate on younger people first unless you go private! I think it would be more emotionally benefit to meet up with people face to face so I'm looking into groups near me

  • Thank You Jane

Do you mind me asking would you think bladder cancer is mainly an older peoples decease 70 +

  • Thank You Sunshine forever

I do hope your results turn out positive for you Pray

  • Hi  . Bladder cancer was once regarded as an old mans disease owing to smoking and heavy industry, but over the years we are seeing more and more young people, possibly owing to modern environment. Treatment is usually determined by fitness rather than age. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi,It always used to be that bladder cancer was more common in older people but more are being diagnosed much younger now.We have had people on here in their 30’s.There have been others much older than you though.

  • Hi Anyastar , I am 62 yr old female same diagnosis and waiting on TURBT. I was pretty shocked to be honest and still very worried about what happens next. I go from philosophical to doom in a heartbeat some days. The folk on here are very helpful and all been through it . I just find it a comfort to know I am not alone with it. I am hoping to hear this week date for TURBT . Happy to chat anytime.

    Much love Angela x
