Hi
just joined this forum. I am 60 year old female.
I went to GP well I had to fight for a face to face, I had bloody urine. No sign of infection from dip test. Had ultrasound scan which showed a mass on my bladder and 2 cyst one on each kidney. Referred to hospital under 2 week rule. Everything has moved so fast, my feet hasn’t touched the ground. I had camera which the urologist that did it said I am sorry it’s cancer but I think it’s superficial and you need it removed asap. It’s 1cm. I then had Ct urogram but before that op was booked fir 24th October.
I am still waiting for Ct results on Tuesday it will be 2 weeks.
I hate the waiting and I know after turbt I will have to wait for results again. Because everything moved within a couple of weeks as such I haven’t seen a urologist nor do I know who it is I only saw the one that did camera.
will I get Ct results after turbt or before and what if they have found something else to.
I am so confused I don’t know what to do.
I have had pre op everything ok there.
it’s just the waiting and not knowing. Also do you have chemo after even if it’s just one dose after surgery? As everything I have read says you do.
Hi Ben1 and welcome to this friendly group. You will get plenty of support here as you go forward. Your story will be familiar to many of us, but first, be aware that bladder cancer can be treated successfully. The TURBT op is fairly straightforward. Usually done in day surgery but prepare for n overnight. It takes a few weeks for results of biopsies and the results determine the next step. The waiting is always the worst part. CT scans are standard just to check there is nothing else going on elsewhere. They may give you some info of your CT at the time, but they usually like to get all the information together first before talking to you. We know how anxious this must be for you. Feel free to ask any questions or just chat. Many of us have been there. Best wishes.
Hi Ben I was the same as you had Ct scan but no-one told me the result ..I was worried thinking all the worse scenarios.. I had the turbt and asked the surgeon who came to see me if the CT scan showed anything else he said no it was fine..it caused me a lot of stress worrying about that I wish they had given me a quick phone call to let me know .. I had one dose of chemo in bladder after the turbt I was in hospital overnight .. I was called back to urologist 3 weeks later and told I had CIS bladder cancer which is classed as high grade .. I have had 15 bcg treatments over the past 2 years and many flexible cystoscopys ..thankfully I have been OK but I do realise that things could change .. waiting for results seems to be nerve racking ..try not to worry too much it really won't change anything only cause you anxiety and bring you down .. I am nearly 67 and try to get on with things .. so far I feel I'm doing well and not letting the cancer diagnosis make my life miserable ..hopefully I'll be able to keep positive.. take care and best of luck with your turbt xx try to ask the forum of any problems you have everyone is so helpful and supportive.. they are all.on this journey with us love from Tina
Thank you both for your replies. I have been told that I should be home same day as long as someone is with me.
The diagnosis has not got me down it’s the waiting around for results. I had alot if emotions at the beginning but I think it’s because I was dealing with a relationship issue at the same time.
Thank you again. When you had the chemo straight after turbt did you have any side effects.? I know everyone is different to how they react to it.
Hi Again Ben1. The chemo in to the bladder (Mitomycin) is designed to mop up any rogue cells floating around. The main after effect is the urge to pee. Handy to have a bottle in the car on the way home just in case. It stings a bit when peeing for a day or so but should ease. The main advice is to drink lots of water, 2/3 litres a day to flush any debris out and keep things clear. Best wishes.
Hi Ben1, I am similar to you, 62 this month, female, blood in urine, had first Turbt no problem with the dose of chemo, went home after over night and drank loads as advised on this helpful forum, rested up for 2 weeks. It is stressful waiting for the results, I did go back to work after another 2 weeks. I have had a second Turbt. I have found everyone on this forum so valuable.
I was terrified before operation but it was not as bad as I had imagined, I have only been in hospital once to have baby in 1994, so that's why I was so scared.
Try and keep calm, it's difficult, lots of meditation to go to sleep with.
Thank you. I have been keeping myself busy like normal.
I have had 2 hip replacements, but then I knew what was happening.
This week will be busy, I have blood tests Wednesday and my usual hair appointment on Thursday.
I appreciate all your support
Well it’s over 2 weeks now and I still haven’t heard anything about the CT Urogram I had.
my TURBT is on Monday so I will ask then if they know anything.
I don’t know who my urologist etc because things moved so quickly with everything. If I did I would give them a call.
Have a lovely weekend everyone
