Hi everyone

my name is SUZANNE

I HAVE TRIED BUT CANT CHANGE MY NAME FROM SMGH

I have an upcoming operation on the 8th June for a RC

I am having a MITROFANOFF at THE ROYAL MARSDON HOSPITAL in Chelsea London Dr Kumar is my surgeon

because they completely change you’re sex life if the woman has a hysterectomy I asked if they could not do it

they gave me an MRI and the surgeons at the MDT meeting said I wouldn’t have to have the hysterectomy which means it saves the vagina

Dreading this operation I will be peeing through my belly button by catheter for ever.
self catheterisation  just dreading it Face palm♀️Pray

  • Hi Suzanne. Not had RC myself, but just welcoming you to the group. I am sure someone with experience of this will be along to offer some help. I hope it goes well. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Hi, Royal Marsden is an excellent centre, you will be in good hands. Certainly RC is a massive operation, but bodies are amazingly strong & adaptable. I have neobladder & have to self cath - seems odd at first, but i'm sure you will soon get used to it. Good news that they don't need to do a hysterectomy, so you won't have early menopause (unless already passed). A good surgeon will preserve as much of the vagina as possible anyway, so all is not lost. Try to look on the operation as something positive to remove the cancer & ensure that you have a healthy life ahead.

You will be immensely tired & weak at first, recovery can seem very slow & frustrating, but you will get there. Just go slow, at the pace your body dictates - build up walking, eat little & often & drink plenty. Many of us here have had RC & now getting on with our lives. Very best wishes for 8 June.

  • Hi Suzanne, I had my rc 8 days ago & I was terrified! But as someone as already commented,  take it slow, go at your own pace & things will come together for you.

Hope all goes well & wishing you the best for your upcoming surgery. X
