Hi
I have just joined the Community and have just been told that I have Bladder Cancer, After having a tumor removed from the wall of my bladder the team at my local Hospital have been great even though I have had appointments cancelled at the last minute a couple of times which is frustrating. Now I'm waiting for a CT & MRI scans to determine if the cancer has spread elsewhere. Then what treatment to have.
Considering all the other issues going on in my life ie Heart attack in Dec and COPD which I have had for a number of years I have been told that I have handled this new issue well, but to be honest I don't know if I have or not, as my wife of 50 years has taken it quite bad and I am trying to help her keep it together as I know I am going to need her help and support once I start my treatment.
Although I have only had a quick look around this site it looks encouraging to see so much support available. Thanks
Hi Summer1950 and welcome to the group. Firstly, be aware that bladder cancer can be treated successfully, one way or another. The scans are fairly standard. The MRI will give a detailed image of the bladder and surrounding areas. The CT is more general and checks the rest of the body just to make sure there is nothing else going on. Have you had the results of your procedure? You will get a stage and grading and this determines the next step. We know the early days of uncertainty and not knowing can be very stressful. Lots of experience and friendly help here, so please feel free to ask any questions or just talk. I am sure you will get plenty of support here as you go forward. Best wishes.
Thanks Rily
My specialist nurse explained about the scans so am aware of them. The results I was told that it was Muscle invasive bladder cancer and at least stage 2 but they would wait for the results of the scans before going into any treatment.
I have just updated my profile with more information about me.
