Hi,

Firstly I've read through some of your conversations and although traumatic, gold people have pulled through.

My Mum's BCG treatment hasn't worked and she has been told she will need her bladder removed. She leave on her own and I live 80 miles away. She's obviously scared and being an only child, it's frightening what she is about to go through.

I can go home for her op and recovery but transport is an issue as I don't drive so worried about recovery if anything where to happen.

I read that there are some support agencies that could help with transport, is that right?

Also I'm self employed and can be there for most of recovery but there will be a out 3 weeks where eI will need to work, in order to take more time off to go back home and take care of her.

I'm thinking of looking into At Home Care in the area for when I need to do this. Has anyone else had to do this?

I don't have much family that can help and in this time, I know that we will need support as it's such a traumatic and dramatic op/change, so your messages that I've read have already been a great help.

Thanks

  • Hi Jezza

I had my bladder removed on 4 March.

Teaswell and Jane have described things pretty well

My choice of food has changed and i can only eat small amounts

Everything takes ages to do but i am glad i had the op and i am glad i have a stoma whom i have called Basil - Fawlty Towers Basil lol. Basil has saved my life

I wish your Mum all the best please let us all know how she progresses

  • Hi Inanna,Hopefully you will get back to what you used to eat over time. It’s hard in the early days because of the diet for the bowel recovery.I didn’t feel hungry and like you could only manage small amounts.I’m eating my usual diet now.Love Jane xx

  • Hi Jezza,It is overwhelming at first.I had my surgery in Bristol,it was done mainly by robot and like Inanna I have a stoma.I’m coping very well having a bag instead of a bladder.I’m gardening and doing light housework.I do get very tired but that’s all part of the recovery process.Love Jane xx

  • Hi Jane

Encouraging news x the body knows best. It won't entertain chocolate x the only things i eat sprinkling sugar on is cereals x i don't enjoy my food much but eat something every day of course

My Consultant said i could do things like housework not heavy, well that can wait lol x i won't go far from my home x this virus scares me.
