I've been diagnosed with T1 G3 bladder cancer ...I was referred to another hospital where they said they needed to take more biopsies to double check and make sure it hasn't gone into muscle wall.  I had that done a week ago and also had MRI scan.  I am waiting for the results.

In the meantime..I have been wondering how on earth I can make the terrible decisions I have been told I will need to make ...namely BCG or bladder removal...

I am a 49 and I worry that BCG might only delay the cancer and it will come back and I will lose my bladder anyway ......and bladder removal straight off  seems so scarey and drastic!

  • . The standard initial BCG is usually 6 treatments, but can vary.

. Great to hear you are doing well. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

Thanks for your reply Turtle49. It's great to hear you're doing well and that life is pretty normal. I look forward to getting back to being me along those stepping stones.

    Hi Beach,

I was diagnosed with G3 T2 (at least) December 2017 after my initial TURBT, I was offered radiotherapy or radical cystectomy . I was also offered a 12 week cycle of neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The tumour was in the bladder neck.

I began neoadjuvant chemotherapy in late February and had the radical cystectomy in May 2018, I’m now 48 years old.

Good luck with the BCG and I hope all works out well for you.

  • As you will have probably read earlier in the thread, I was TaG3 & chose RC straight off for best chance of cure (among other reasons). I was told with BCG approx 40% chance of cure in the long term & 50% likelihood of needing RC eventually. I didn't want to risk the cancer recurring as muscle invasive & chance of cure reducing. It's not an easy decision to make. I have neobladder which isn't perfect, but is now my new normal.

If your second biopsy is T2, then RC or chemo plus radiotherapy would be your options. The more recurrences & more advanced they are, the more the chance of cure reduces. With clear post op path report I am deemed 95% likely cured.

The most important aspect is that the cancer has been detected & is now being addressed. Then you need to be sure you are making an informed decision when given options. Good wishes for the future.

    Hi Teasswill,

Thanks for your message. Thats great news on your post op report. My surgeon has told me that its highly likely with T1G3 I will have a recurrence and I'd be looking at BCG treatment, cystoscopys, general anaesthetics, Ct Scans for the rest of my life and it all seemed so overwhelming. Then the threat of it becoming muscle invasive ( if it isn't already)

I will go with his recommendations but he has briefly talked about the RC and how it would mean the cancer would be gone and the chances of me living a normal life (albeit with no bladder) would be much greater.

It's really great to hear that you are deemed 95% cured. That must be such a relief.

  • My husband completed his 21st bcg at the end of February and remains all clear. He is 3 years down the line from diagnosis We were initially told he would have 27 .However if he is clear after the next 3 in Sept they have said he need not have the final 3 ,but will continue with 6 monthly checks eventually extending to 12 monthly

Thankfully like Suecc on here bcg has worked for him Altho we had to make the decision initially the consultant said in our circumstances it would have been his choice

    Good luck with your treatment

    Love

    Wilbert
