Hi everyone I got diagnosed with bladder cancer last Thursday (4th Sept) then had another scan last Friday to see if it’s spread, I now have another consultation but it’s not until 9th October which has put my brain into overdrive, I don’t know if that means it’s really bad or what! My friend told me that the waiting was the worst part of this journey he’s so rite
Hi My husband was diagnosed with the same in March. I have found it’s very rare to have a tumour here and there is no information available and very few people who seem to have experienced this on the forum.
i can tell you that my husband was offered a diverticulectomy which he had done in June. Just something you can ask about as one of your options for treatment.
I wish you well with your treatment and happy to chat as you go through your treatment to compare notes.
Hi I’ve been offered a diverticulectomy but I need results of CT scan first too see if cancer has spread or not that’s were I’m upto at the moment, how did your husbands procedure go? Thanks for getting back to compare as you said it seems quite rare
thanks Barry
Hi Yes he had to have a CT scan before a date for the op was given. He then went for pre surgery checks . He was able to have the surgery via robotic assistive technology so was much less invasive. He was in surgery for several hours. He has several small wounds now across his stomach very small and one larger where the diverticulum was removed. He was in hospital overnight and came home the next day. Recovery was very quick. He only needed analgesia for a few days . The only draw back for him was he had to have a catheter in place for 7 weeks which he found very uncomfortable and very restrictive. However in the scheme of things that’s nothing.
everything crossed for you CT scan. The waiting is awful keep yourself busy
Hi thanks that sounds a great outcome, I was told it was a complex operation, but it’s great your husband came out the next day, I’ve had the pleasure of a catheter on and off over the last month or 2 not pleasant but slowly getting used to them, thanks great to speak to someone with similar experience, the waiting seems to be the thing everyone hates, but I’ll keep waiting , I have a problem with retention in my bladder, not sure if the operation improves this or it’s just too remove the tumour?
thanks again
Barry
He had retention a few years ago but had different surgery to address this I think the retention pressure build up caused the diverticulum.
Post diverticulum surgery after Catheter removal and stent (a stent was placed to protect the wound) he had a UTI but no other problems passing urine since surgery. I guess they will advise when they discuss the surgery date etc
I did forget to mention that following this surgery he had to limit his mobility for a couple of weeks just potter indoors and was not allowed to lift anything for about 6 weeks. After 8 weeks he was allowed to do a gentle session at the gym. Hope this information helps.
Good luck and keep me posted on how your journey through your treatment plan progresses
wishing you the very best
