Bladder/ prostrate cancer

Hello,

Could you give me some direction?

My dad has just had his 88th birthday at the weekend.

He was diagnosed with inoperable bladder cancer and prostrate cancer. Last July I took him for 3 days of radiotherapy which seemed to stop the bleeding, however 2 weeks again I took him for cystoscopy, which I thought was unnecessary as we have been told the cancer was in operable I could not see what putting my father such an unpleasant experience would achieve.
He was told at the time that it was a stone that required further investigation and then removal. He was told this a year ago and on further investigation was told it was an inoperable tumour. I feel that we have gone back a year and my poor dad feels the same.
2 weeks after the invasive procedure last Thursday he had the most horrendous bleeding and was passing clots for 5 hours. Would you know whether this would be a result of the procedure or a further stage of his bladder cancer?
He has been on oramorph and then morphine patches for the last year and has monthly hormone injections for his prostrate cancer. I am quite cross because he did not receive any follow up after his radiotherapy which we were advised that he would and that a 87 year old man was given such an invasive procedure to talk us what we already know and the information is like last year did not happen.

Thank you

  • Hello Humey and welcome to the group, although sorry to hear what your dad has been through. We are not medics so would not be able to say the cause of the bleeding. Have you tried calling the consultant's secretary to get some answers as to what they have planned. Failing that you could contact PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison service) who could look in to things for you and get some answers. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.
