Just wanted to thank the wonderful group that reached out to me with information love and encouragement.
Moms 1st Chemo day was yesterday and unfortunately after taking all her pills and mentally prepping herself she showed up and due to a fire in the building it was rescheduled for today. You seriously can't make this up.
At any rate I just spoke to her as I'm at work and she said today went good no hiccup and she feels OK.
Even though I know that not feeling good is coming I am happy to report she sounds alot more optimistic and not as terrified. I do think the not knowing what to expect was weighing on her.
Love and hugs to you all and have a peaceful evening ️
That sounds like your Mum is in a good frame of mind, which always helps.
We all feel the effects differently, and at different rates so please remind her to ask for help as soon as she feels anything uncomfortable or painful, not to try and be brave. The medical staff have lots available to help and are happy to advise.
Not sure what treatment she is having without checking back, but be aware that some of us felt quite nauseous after having Mitomycin (it is only given once at the start I believe) but this usually settles, and the rest of the chemo is not so bad.
Please wish her all the best
Thank you and I will definitely pass that on to her. She is getting the high dose carboplatin paclitaxel regime. Things went OK yesterday she said she had back pain later in the day pretty bad but no nausea so far so we'll take that as a win. Hugs
Hi SupportingmomStage4analcancer ,
Oh how blinking inconvenient!! But I’m so pleased to hear that everything when to plan today.
Often that fear before starting treatment comes from the unknown & not quite knowing what to expect but once that first day is over you slip into the routine of your daily hospital appointments & begin to relax a little, this was definitely my experience, I hope this is the case for your mum too.
I hope the rest of your mum's treatment goes smoothly, sending lots of positive thoughts her way & not forgetting you of course.
Nicola
Hello Supportive daughter
I am really pleased your Mum wasn't phased by the fire and is in a better frame of mind. Prior to my chemotherapy I was asked if I wanted to see around the treatment room, and I said absolutely not, and scuttled out. But my fears were unfounded; I thought it would be a really gloomy place, but in fact there was lots of laughter and chatting and although it was quite a few hours each week I took in my Sudoku book and newspaper and the time passed really quickly. The nurses were so kind and positive and I used to leave there feeling uplifted. So I hope it is the same for her.
Irene xx
Hi,
Im so sorry that your Mum’s first day was so eventful. The last thing needed when anxiety levels already running through the roof. I really feel for your poor Mum.
I hope the treatment schedule runs more smoothly and less dramatically going forward.
It’s wonderful that you are being so supportive and as others have said make sure any concerns and problems are communicated to the team who are there to help and support. Never suffer in silence as there are so many things that can help with nausea, pain and skin condition.
Wishing both you and your Mum all the best for the treatment journey ahead xx
Thanks so much I do feel she's in a more positive frame of mind now that she knows what to expect from the treatment room. She did have some pretty bad back pain and joint pain which I think was more from the day after shot than chemo but I'm not sure. At any rate no nausea so far and I had her laughing every day this week so I'm taking that as a win! Much love and hugs for your support
