Hi,
Is paracetamol for the pain from sore skin or do you need paracetamol for general pain in the bottom ?
Jet
Hi Jet, Before I found out I had anal cancer, I was taking paracetamol and Ibuprofen and had a hot water bottle that I use to put on my bum, as I was in pain it felt like it was throbbing and a pressure type feeling and was very uncomfortable, when I found out I had cancer, I asked for stronger pain relief, which I was given Morphine tables and oramorph, however I didn’t take the Tables as they made me feel ill so just stuck with the oramorph which was an absolute god send, I’m still on it now, I only take a couple of mls in the morning which is when I get my pain, I had a stoma before my treatment started, but once treatment finished it has caused 2 lumps of scar tissue to form and it has caused a stricture and stopping me from going a toilet and it’s also very inflamed up there still so I have my stoma for life, if you need stronger pain relief don’t suffer speak to your care team or Dr.

Hello Jet
We always have a supply of paracetamol in the house for headaches and the odd ache and pain but during treatment you might find you need something stronger, if you do, please mention it to your treating team. If you are prescribed opioid-based drugs (Oramorph, Co-codamel) just be sure to take a stool softener such as Laxido alongside and these drugs cause constipation. Not what you want in the middle or at the end of treatment.
I hope your nausea has eased off?

Hi Irene,
Thank you and yes my nausea is not nearly so bad this week so maybe it was the mycitocin.
I am always hesitant re taking pain killers, even paracetamol for the very reason that you have stated. Certainly taking the paracetamol worked in the middle of the night for me on Sunday when I was in a lot of pain and I took a Laxido so I am ok this morning.
Several people have suggested Oramorph for when I need something stronger, so I am hoping that as long as I take the Laxido as you have suggested then that would be a good choice.

Hi Jane,
i had always suffered with chronic constipation and would go weeks without going to the toilet, however since having the stoma it has given me a better quality of life and don’t really suffer anymore, I still get the odd times of constipation but not sure whether it’s the oramorph, I was given Cosmicol when I was really struggling and does work well.
The Oramorph I was able to have 5 mls as and when needed tbh only ever had it once a day the odd occasion morning and night but that was in the middle of my treatment, but like say before I only have no more than 2mls and that is enough to stop the pain I still have.
Take Care
