I was diagnosed with vulva cancer last year, it was on my pernium and attached to my annus, had chemoradiation for 5 weeks and was given the news that I was in remission in July this year.
In September I realised that another leison had developed in the same area, after petscans mri and cat scan I went to see consultant who said the only treatment is to operate and remove the tumour.
Tgere will be 3 surgeons in the theatre has I will have to gave a colostomy which I will have a stoma bag for life, due to radiotherapy my skin us thin so a plastic surgeon will have to take skin from somewhere and attach it
My date for the operation will be in the next few weeks, I will be in hospital for 7-10 days then it will be months of recovery.
My freezer is stocked up with meals for my husband and I will have to start the Christmas shopping this week
Lots of love Susan
Hello Susan
I am really sorry to hear that the treatment didn't rid you of this and that you are now facing surgery. Hopefully you will be out of hospital and recovering before Christmas and your husband will be on hand to look after you whilst you recover.
I had an elective stoma in June because of ongoing problems after chemo/radiotherapy and it has actually made my life a lot easier - I no longer have to worry about being caught whilst out and I have taken having a stoma in my stride. But I realise your surgery is a lot more complex and recovery is much longer, and I really do wish you well - please come back and let us know when you are due to have your surgery and how you are. And you need help from all quarters going through this, call in all those favours now!

Thank you so much, consultants can't believe it's reoccurred so soon in the space of 8-10 weeks .
I will let you know when I have my date xx
I've got a wonderful family and neighbours who would help me out xx
Good you’ve got your date through now Harrybo
I had an epidural followed by the general anaesthetic, followed by 2 days in the high dependency unit before moving to the ward. Hope it all goes smoothly for you.

Hi Susan
sorry to hear you have to go back for an op
i had an APR op end of July where everything in my rear end was removed . I was told I would have a permanent stoma so it wasn’t a shock to me . I knew the op was major and would take around 6/7 hours . I was so apprehensive about the operation and just wanted the day of the op to come and go . Post op was fine …didn’t feel any pain but biggest hick up was having to lie on my side and not get up for 4 days ..more so it was in the heat of summer and so hot ! I started walking from the day I got home ..all made easier with the stoma as I wasn’t caught out . It’s actually been a godsend and giving me so much freedom . My rear made it uncomfortable to sit so most recovery days were spent walking and lying down .
I am now 4 months post op , back to the gym and on the bike . Still have a urinary problem but am hoping this will sort itself out in time .
Wishing you all the best with your op and keep us posted
