Hi, I'm Suz. I've finished my treatment, have had a couple of months to recover and am gearing up for all the testing and prodding that lie ahead.
I'm feeling much, much better than the last couple of weeks of treatment, and the first awful month of recovery. But there's still SO much pain and discomfort and exhaustion. I know that recovering completely- assuming they got it all and that I WILL recover completely- will take time, but dang, I'd sure like to be able to plan something over an hour's drive away, or go for a hike without panicking about the availability of a restroom. Or even just getting too from my all-the-stuff-I-need supplied bathroom.
My prognosis is good, but my spirits are droopy. I'm worn out by feeling worn out.
Sure hope it passes. It's summer, my power season, and I want to be out there in it!
Hi ridetbred and welcome to the group. Good to hear you’ve finished treatment. The recovery process does take time and a lot of patience. Your body has been through a lot and you need to make sure you’re having plenty of rest to allow your body time to heal and allow yourself to build back up slowly to your previous level of activity. This is admittedly difficult if you’re impatient to recover. I mistakenly thought I’d be back to my usual fitness levels within a couple of months of treatment but had to learn to take small steps on the road to recovery. Also, it’s quite common to take a backwards step now and then. The soreness and pain does fade but then sometimes seems to come back for a few days before fading again. It can be frustrating. Hang on in there, things will improve. Bev
I hear you! It is 12 weeks today since I finished treatment and I keep wondering when I am going to get my energy back. But is is very slightly better week-by-week, and I think I am going to have to accept that going out with no escape route is going to be similar to when my daughter takes her baby out - wet wipes, nappies and a change of clothes!
