Hello,

I hope wherever you are on your journey reading this, you are in a good place.

I am 32 years old and 3 weeks post treatment. Feeling a little bit alone as there doesn’t seem to be information out there for women of my age so I wondered if there was anyone on this page that is perhaps around my age?
The treatment was very kind to me and I feel very lucky to be well on my way to recovery but now nervous about things like menopause and sex life.. does menopause happen to everyone that receives this treatment?
grateful for any advice or insights. Thank you for reading

  • Hello Madd123

Welcome to the forum, and I am so pleased that the treatment went well and without too many side effects.  I can't help you on any of your questions but hope some of our younger forum members will be along soon and can share experiences.

    Irene xx

  • Hi Madd123

I'm older than you, but from what my oncologist told me and from what I've read the treatment can cause early menopause but not with everyone. Did your oncologist not discuss any of this with you prior to treatment, given your age I think they should have. Do you think it's a possibility? I would give the hospital a ring and speak to someone if you are concerned. Xx

  • Hello Madd,

I am post menopausal, but there are some younger women around the forum. But welcome, and great to hear you are on the road to recovery.

  • Hi  ,

Another warm welcome from me too. I’m so pleased to read that you didn’t suffer too much during your treatment, hopefully this will mean that you have fewer long term side effects than some.

I don’t have any major issues & I’m almost 7 years on from treatment now. I was 52 at diagnosis & already had a foot in the menopause pond, since my treatment finished I had no more menopausal symptoms which leads me to the conclusion that my treatment brought things to an abrupt end!

Hopefully some of our younger members will see your post & be able to be of a little more help. Like  though I’m surprised given your age that your Dr’s didn’t discuss these topics with you.

Wishing you the very best of luck with your continued recovery.

    Nicola

  • Hi Bungle1, thank you for your reply. They did discuss it with me but made it out like it will happen, I guess I’m looking for people who perhaps have gone through treatment at my age and didn’t experience menopause. I know we are all so different but from what I’ve read online it says not all women experience that. Xx

  • Hi Nikki, thank you for your reply. Great to hear you don’t have any major issues 7 years on. The drs did discuss it with me and sort of made me think it was a given but from what I’ve read online it says ‘most women’ which leads me to believe some women may not? Just looking to see if there was anyone out there that didn’t experience it. Thanks again for your message and warm welcome x

  • Hi Madd123,

    Great that you’ve finished treatment.
Obviously it’s an unpleasant diagnosis to say the least but I’m truly sorry that this has happened to you at such a young age.

As an oldie I’m not able to advise on this but I truly hope that you find someone of a similar age in the group to share and compare experiences with. Also as others have said it really sounds like your team could give you a bit more support and guidance given how young you are.
    Wishing you well x

  • Hi Peb24,

thank you for your message. I was very lucky that it was found at very early stage 2 so although it is a rubbish diagnosis (at any age), I feel grateful it was found early and is treatable.
I think the team just couldn’t give me the information I wanted as they said everyone is so different with how they respond to treatment. Fingers crossed for smooth sailing through recovery x

  • Hi Madd123

My oncologist said not everyone will. I'm pretty sure I've read some posts on here from people who are your age so hopefully one of them will pick up on your post. Sending hugs. Xx

  • Thanks Bungle1. I’ve got an appointment on Monday now with the hospital so can go through any questions that have arisen  since I’ve finished treatment. (Like I’m pretty sure I’ve grown over down there eek). But glad to hear your oncologist gave you that info!! Hopefully there’s someone out there that is younger and can share their experience. Thank you for your kind messages x
