Hello,

I had my surgery eight days ago once they got in there they saw that the tumor was not just on the posterior back of the vagina but that it had invaded the rectum and grown around the right of the vagina so they ended up taking much more almost all of the vagina and she had to go so far out to try to get clear margins that they ended up taking pelvic floor muscle and going straight to the bone she said there’s a possibility that it went into the bone. I’m still waiting for pathology reports because there’s so many samples to be reviewed. The reason it took so long for me to post is the pain has been horrendous. I feel like my pain was managed so well during my treatment because it was between me and my doctor and I wasn’t in a hospital. I am in the US and it’s a awful complicated system but the surgeon team so there were three surgeons what they recommend their hands are tied once you get admitted to the hospital and the hospital decides if you should have and what you should have for pain management so I had no management of the pain. It would go up to 10 and then I’d have to beg and plead for medication they mistakenly took the Foley out after two days and then they could not get it back in. They did two tries with four nurses and me screaming the whole time for an hour and they finally called urology and they were able to get the Foley back in. I would say the hardest part is having some of the nursing staff try to give me anxiety medicine and telling me that it was all in my head that it wasn’t hurting this bad but the surgeons were saying this is such a complex surgery that this particular hospital doesn’t see very often and they just were uncomfortable giving me 10 mg of oxycodone every three hours and then Dilaudid for the breakthrough pain. I had to fight to get a pick line I had to blow out five IVs before they would agree to put the pick line in so overall it’s been a horrendous eight days and I’ve had a friend stay here 12 hours a day and bring me food which was so gracious and wonderful. I’m talk texting because I can’t see to type. I just wanted to update and thank everybody for their prayers and support and any tips you might have going forward. They’re trying to get me out of the hospital cause I decided the goal is not necessarily the patient but they do want to get you out. I am just unable to move because my restrictions of not being able to incline more than 30° and not being able to sit under any circumstances so it’s very difficult to get Mobile. I’m trying to stay positive. I would welcome any tips or if anybody’s gone through this any ideas that I can use to get better thank you in advance Kathleen
