Blood Transfusion

Try not to worry about the prospect of your mum needing a blood transfusion, the chemo side of the treatment can cause the depletion of red blood cells & platelets so blood transfusions are commonplace & should give your mum a boost. A lady that I buddied up with during my treatment had a blood transfusion mid way through her treatment & said it made her feel much better. I hope this goes a little way to easing your concerns.

I’m two years post treatment coming up in December. During my treatment I ended up being admitted to hospital a couple of times in close succession and had seven units of blood in total!  The chemo made me really poorly. My oncologist reduced the dose in the end. She said the radiotherapy is the most important thing and not to worry. I came out the other side feeling much better but it took a long time for me to get my strength back. I think I tried to keep doing my usual jobs at home and dog walking etc. I soon found out the hard way that wasn’t a good idea!
