hi guys l am nearly post 12 months from treatment for my anal cancer it was stage 3 advanced and l was told l had a complete responce.l am experiencing back hip pain my knees also ache is this common
Hi loki balls7b3768 it's brilliant that you had a complete response. My hips have been tight since treatment and there are a few on here who have hip issues from treatment. As for your knees I don't recall anyone mentioning that, it could be as your hips are causing you pain you could potentially be compensating with your knees which could make them ache. Quite often knee pain is a result of tight hips or ankles. Sending hugs. Xx
Hi Loki balls7b3768 , I'm also 12 months post treatment and was given the 1 year all clear on Tuesday, I also suffer pain in my back, hips and knees, the pain in my knees is worse when I walk down the stairs and my hips stop me walking more than half a mile as they get so painful as for the back pain that's something I've suffered with most of my life what I have found is if I cycle I don't get any pain at all and I recently purchased a cheap treadmill and strangely I can walk for miles on it with no pain, I can't explain this but it does allow me to get some excercise, I hope this helps.
Steve
thank you for answering its reassuring that this is normal congratulations and well done on your 12 month check mine is in October fingers crossed
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you
Hello loki balls7b3768
I am so pleased to hear your positive result after all that treatment, you must be so relieved. Unfortunately some of us do continue to have side effects from the treatment, I am four and a half years out of treatment and have tendinopathy in both hips. I am seeing a physiotherapist and do exercises every second day but I have been warned that it could take up to nine months to really see results and that I should always carry on doing them.
Bungle is absolutely right about knees being affected by back and hip pain, so getting advice about your hips and back may well help.
Hope you get some relief.
Big hug
Irene xx
Hi loki balls7b3768 ,
Firstly it’s great to hear that you’ve had a complete response to your treatment.
As you’re probably aware by now from the other member’s responses the hip & back pain is pretty common following our treatment, I over 8 years post treatment & I’m still struggling with this, initially physio seemed to help somewhat but the relief wasn’t prolonged. I’m in the process of returning to physio, I’ve also got issues with my right knee & have been told it’s probably all to do with my hip & back. I’ve recently had an MRI on my hips & lumbar spine which showed mostly just a whole load of inflammation along with bursitis in my hips.

Hi. Congratulations on the all clear.
I finished treatment in December and also suffer from lower back pain and also hip pain. So I’m not back to work yet due to this as I work as a night carer in a home x
