Open and raw- week 1

Hello everyone,

I’ve just finished week 1 which was actually ok other than extreme constipation (thanks morphine) that was very uncomfortable.  Before starting my wound at the cancer site was seeping a lot and hasn’t healed since the biopsy which was over 2 months ago. It feels (and is) raw and painful.

I’m extremely nervous about the’ state’ my bum is in already and it’s only week 1. I know that healing is difficult while getting treatment.

I’m staying positive with my morphine but scared about the radiotherapy (28 sessions and 2 cycles of chemo) and is it going to make an already raw and painful bum unbearable?

Anyone suffering/suffered an open wound from the start?

much love and strength Purple heartGreen heart

  • Hi  well done on getting through week1. My biopsy site was external and still a bit sore when treatment started although i wouldn't have described it as open. I would put instillagel on it which stung like hell but did the job, also keep moisturising. Sending hugs. Xx

  • Hello

I would mention all of this to your oncologist who will be able to prescribe creams and dressings to help.  I had bad sores (although not as early as you) and was eventually prescribed Polymem dressings and Flamigel Forte gel which really helped.  Personally the one thing that I found - much to my cost - was that constipation was truly awful when the whole area is inflamed and sore.  This was when I was on high doses of opioid drugs and should have been taking Laxido alongside.

I am sorry you are going through this so early on, it must be really must be very challenging for you.  Please do tell your treating team if you need your painkillers upped to help you cope.

    Gentle hug

    Irene xx
