Hi, I can in and introduced myself back in January when I was diagnosed. I had my squamous cell carcinoma removed in March. The surgeon said he had got a good clear margin, however the oncologist decided to still put me through chemoradiation. I’m only on day three but feeling very sick. Is this normal? My tummy is very gurgly and I seem to have reflux more than actual sickness. Any tips? Is it normal to feel like this so early into treatment? I’m on 1500mg Capecitabine twice a day and metoclopramide (anti sickness tablets) three times a day. Already quite a lot of blood when I poop and very mucousy. I will mention it at my treatment later, but was wondering if you had any tips x
Hi JustSue I assume they gave you Lanzaprozole to reduce stomach acid? That really helps reduce the sickness as a first start. I didn't get on with Meto (it just empties your stomach). There are alternatives - Cyclizine? I didnt take any but this worked really well for my friend who struggled with sickness.
I can't comment on the blood as I had a stoma (though now it comes out two holes instead of one!!!) But I did have a lot of mucous as things kick-off quite quickly. Your body gets used to the radiation and then I found at weekends, would inflame on Saturdays and calm a bit on Sundays.
Hope this helps a bit and dont forget to use loads of Flamigel, three times a day, and wash with only water xx
Arh ok yes that would make sense. I feel like I need to reach but it’s just air/ burps coming out. I will have a chat to them today.
I haven’t got any antacids so that may also be an option.
Also haven’t got Flamigel. They gave me Epimax which is a paraffin cream so will also ask about that.
I was wondering how you were getting on. We spoke when I was first diagnosed as I think we were at similar times. I hope things are going ok with you and you coming to the end of your treatment x
Hi JustSue ,
I’m sorry you’re experiencing issues so early in your treatment.
I see Willow26 has offered you some really good advice so I’ll not repeat it, just let your team know that the metoclopramide isn’t working for you & they’ll change it I’m sure. I took lansaprozole throughout as my only option for pain relief was paracetamol & ibuprofen & ibuprofen severely upsets my stomach.
I hope things settle down for you soon.
Nicola
Hello JustSue
I can only reiterate what the others have said - let them know the effects of the medication. And as for the blood and mucous - quite a number of forum members have experienced this very early on in treatment and were told it is the tumour breaking down - BUT I tell you this and please bear in mind I have no medical background!
Sending you lots of good wishes that your treatment goes well.
Irene xx
Hi JustSue I finished 7 weeks ago! It was okay, manageable. I didn't need pain relief, was religious with my skin routine and bought flamigel myself, then moved to Flaminal hydro and polymem dressings for the last two weeks (6-7). My skin didnt break until the 6th week thank goodness - and started to get better on day 9 after the 28th zap!
Drink loads of water and use a jug of water over the loo to wash down there gently. I also had peri-bottles next to each loo and reapplied cream after. Little cheeky wipe cotton towels helped.
I just watched a lot of Netflix and pottered round the house!
Since treatment, I find I get tired. I painted both my girls rooms this week and am exhausted! I also find that I leak a bit of mucous from my bum and of course vaginal dilators are needed! Things are much smaller down there....
It's a bit like childbirth....you sort of forget it all, are always tired and a bit sore after.
Good they are being so thorough - gotta get every bad cell....xx
I felt so much positivity from this post. Thank you
