Sickness

Hi, I can in and introduced myself back in January when I was diagnosed. I had my squamous cell carcinoma removed in March. The surgeon said he had got a good clear margin, however the oncologist decided to still put me through chemoradiation. I’m only on day three but feeling very sick. Is this normal? My tummy is very gurgly and I seem to have reflux more than actual sickness. Any tips? Is it normal to feel like this so early into treatment? I’m on 1500mg Capecitabine twice a day and metoclopramide (anti sickness tablets) three times a day. Already quite a lot of blood when I poop and very mucousy. I will mention it at my treatment later, but was wondering if you had any tips x

  • Hi  I assume they gave you Lanzaprozole to reduce stomach acid? That really helps reduce the sickness as a first start. I didn't get on with Meto (it just empties your stomach). There are alternatives - Cyclizine? I didnt take any but this worked really well for my friend who struggled with sickness.

I can't comment on the blood as I had a stoma (though now it comes out two holes instead of one!!!) But I did have a lot of mucous as things kick-off quite quickly. Your body gets used to the radiation and then I found at weekends, would inflame on Saturdays and calm a bit on Sundays.

Hope this helps a bit and dont forget to use loads of Flamigel, three times a day, and wash with only water xx

  • Arh ok yes that would make sense. I feel like I need to reach but it’s just air/ burps coming out. I will have a chat to them today.
I haven’t got any antacids so that may also be an option.
Also haven’t got Flamigel. They gave me Epimax which is a paraffin cream so will also ask about that.

I was wondering how you were getting on. We spoke when I was first diagnosed as I think we were at similar times. I hope things are going ok with you and you coming to the end of your treatment x
