Hi all, I am 8 weeks post treatment and my skin is all fine, I am suffering from muscle weakness and still some lethargy. BUT does anyone have any ideas on creams to reduce scarring around the anus?  My skin seems to be thickening and I am worried it will get worse, as I do the vaginal dilation I thought that the same issue could occur anally.

  • Hi ,

I’ve used plenty of E45 cream around the anal area even now , 19 months post ..

I don’t think there is a product to help with internal scarring , but I maybe wrong

    take care

  • Hello

I am sorry that you are still feeling fatigued and weakness, but eight weeks really isn't very long and you sound as if you are doing really well dilating already.  It amazed me how long I took to recover but with hindsight when I think about the intense course of treatment it is hardly surprising.

I didn't have thickening of the skin, in fact my skin is extremely fragile in the whole area and I go through a tub of Sudocrem in no time.  However, I definitely have scarring internally in that I developed severe stenosis in the anus.  Had I known this would have happened I would have dilated anally very soon after treatment ended as I had real problems in passing stools.  That said, many others have gone back to more or less normal, I think I was just unlucky.

Is your three-month scan coming up?  If so I would mention your concerns to your oncologist and let him/her see your skin in the area.

I do hope you get something to help you.
