Hi all I hope everyone is well xx
I had my post treatment contrast CT on the 6th Jan and I am expected to have my MRI on 26th Jan and I assumed drs would call me in when I have both results together
I had a call yesterday asking me to come on this Wednesday.
Would they go off the ct as all clear knowing that thry font need to rely on the mri as this was looking at wider spread which thry knew confidently that there was none
Or had it not been successful and they are calling in to give me bad news
So worried now
Take care all xx
Hi Ian L c2e27 i can understand why you would be worried, but try not to read to much into it. Personally ive had appointments all over the place, ive given up trying to understand the logic and second guessing. Can you ring and ask thats what i used to do. Xx
Hi Ian,
It’s an anxious time waiting for those first scan results. I would do as Bungle1 has suggested and give them a call to clarify.
I too had appointments that crossed over scans and results so this does happen and doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong. Better to ask the question than wait and worry.
Obviously everything crossed for you that all will be well xx
Were your results ok?
I wonder if they tell me all clear pending a further mri or it'd bad news and hasn't cleared
When I got diagnosed they told me to bring someone with me
This time she didnt say this
Hi Ian,
My results were clear but it was all a bit messy.
Id had both scans last January but didn’t have a follow up to give the outcome until mid March. I developed excruciating back pain in mid February out of the blue and the MacMillan nurse sent me to EACU where I had a further spinal MRI. EACU called me back a couple of weeks later and asked me to go back as they’d found the cause of the pain, so I was highly anxious. It turned out to be areas of stenosis and nerve compression and they told me that my then that my anal cancer scans were clear.
Definitely give them a call to ask why you’ve been called back prior to your MRI. It’s hard for you being left wondering and sorry that you’re in this situation. Sometimes things don’t quite join up, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that somethings wrong. Xx
Hi Ian
The anxiety around scan time is huge and it’s normal to start reading things into situation due to that but to have such a gap between the two scans doesn’t sound ideal.
It was a different procedure where I had treatment, it was a PET scan and an MRI done on the same day if possible and then a consultation 2 weeks later with a DRE. The consultation was actually booked before the scans where booked.
I don’t think you can read anything into it at this stage, the consultation for the CT fits with being a standard timeframe, I’d do what Bungle has suggested and give them a call.
Personally, I think if the CT is clear they’d tell you that and deal with the MRI results when they have them, with this treatment and esp in the early stages post treatment we are always only 3 months or next scan etc or something away from another review until discharged.

Good morning Ian, some good advice here about giving them a call. I do think that the first scan results can be a bit blurry due to inflammation still and scarring settling down. Some hospitals wait until six months before giving CT scans to have a much clearer view. For some the inflammation settles quicker and the three months scan can show a clearer picture. I remember it being a worrying wait and my hospital was always late with results and I would give them a call to help settle your mind.

Hello Ian L c2e27
No wonder you are worried - but this could be a simple case of one department not talking to the other. And your results have come in and they want to see you, bear in mind it is early days and they may want to check you out at the same time.
I would certainly do as the others have suggested and call, otherwise you will be on tenterhooks until Wednesday. I am really sorry you have this hanging over you and hope you are reassured very quickly.
Big hug
Irene xx
Hi all and thanks for your replies.
The consultants secretary called to say appointment is being cancelled as dr didnt realise my MRI id not until 26th do my appointment id now 28th.
I would assume that given that she had ct reporting I had an appointment scheduled she could have still gone ahead with the appointment should it have been negative news and that she is only holding off until the mri is back
Fingers crossed that im right x
Yes that sounds like how it goes - these things get mixed up between departments and causes us no end of speculation and worry. Sound like all is under control and if they really needed to see you they would have gone ahead with the first appointment, so fingers crossed all is well on 28th. Let us know how you get on x
I work in the nhs and I get frustrated on a daily basis with their mixed ups and feet dragging
The secretary was particularly snotty over change of appointment as though the drs lack of knowledge around the appointment system was disclaimer for the mix up
Whats not acceptable is
Having two scans three weeks apart
And not having the forward planning on appointments knowing that the screening process is ct and mri and that it's best to wait for both results
Ggrrrrrh x
