Hi all just a question really.

Not taken the pills over wwekwnd as they say mon to fri only

I wasn't sick yesterday but this morning I was even though pulls not taken. Was anyone else like this. Just seems to be fordt thing in morning and then im ok

Thanks x

  • So sorry to hear that you’re still getting that nausea. Did they give you any tablets for that? They have told me they will give me tablets to take if I feel sick but I’m going to ask if I can/should take them preventatively as it feels a bit silly to take them once you’re already sick!

  • I am a nurse so yex you can take them preventative what did they give you as its usually 3 times a day so every 8 hrs

I work in acute medicine so im not as knowledgeable around drugs like chemo tablets and their lasting effects but I do know you can take antidickness to prevent nausea before it starts. I didnt do this today as I haven't had the chemo tablets over the weekend and I was fine yesterday so thought I would be todsy.

I've managed to eat and drink like a farmer so not off my food or struggling to keep anything down.

They gave me IM injectios in case it gets bad but ill have to contact District nurses to give me this. But so far ive not needed anything stronger than tablets.

  • That's good to know - thanks. I will get them tomorrow at my first appointment so don't yet know what they will give me. Getting nervous about tomorrow and managing bowels, bladder, the need to eat etc. I am assuming that they will give me something to eat before my first chemo tablets as I won't have been able to have a meal within 30 minutes of my appointment due to travelling etc. So may things to worry about (one of my super powers is over-thinking!!).

  • I had my chemo infusion on first day then started chemo tablets the next day

If thry want to start them on same day they'll get you a sandwich at hodpital .

I learnt the trick is have anti sickness when you wake up before eating and drinking then food then chemo tablets

My sickness hasn't been that bad apart from Thurs which was bad and then all other times is when I've woken up and only small amounts

I didnt take antisocjnesz yesterday or today as not taken chemo tablets but I think ill take them in morning every day of week.

The thing with nurses, we can advise well but we are terrible patients lol

  • Hi,

    I too am an overthinker!

I'm not sure what you've been told so far, but they will have thought of everything you are worried about, so if they don't mention something, then please ask them. They've seen and heard it all before. Just trust that they know what they are doing and tell them if anything doesn't feel right or makes you worried.

If you are concerned about food take something with you, just to get you through. I was so worried on my first day that I couldn't eat a thing, then when it was all over I felt a lot calmer and happy things were going to be ok, and I realised I was absolutely starving!

All the best. Let us know how you get on. x

  • Hello

I am late to the discussion but I see you have more or less answered your own question!  I honestly can't remember if I took tablets over the weekend so couldn't have shared my experience.  But it seems a good idea to use them as a preventative measure.  Best of luck this coming week.

    Irene xx

  • Day one - done! Bit of a nightmare as my chemo appt was at 0900 but the drugs didn’t arrive until 1330. That’s a long time to sit and worry whilst attached to a saline drip! Still, all done now for the day. They told me to take my first chemo tablets tonight and suggested to take preventative anti nausea tabs today and tomorrow (mainly I think because we are off to be in the audience for The Masked Singer tomorrow afternoon and I don’t want to be feeling bleurgh). Hope yours was Ok today and the sickness has stopped. x

  • Hi im glad you had a good day and the medics are right with regards to taking antiametics for preventing nausea. Depending on what they give you , you can take every 8 hrs.

Personally id take them for the next few days just to keep the nausea at bay until meds kick in.

Hope tomorrow goes well for u x

  • Hi   , I’m not medically trained in any way but those levels of toxins from the treatment in your body that are making you sick in the morning I wouldn’t think are going to drop drastically over the weekends so I would try taking the anti-sickness meds even on the weekends when you’re not having treatment & see how it goes. If it doesn’t settle have a word with your oncologist as there’ll be other options.

  • My sickness is ok and manageable on oral antiametics

I am a nurse but work in acute medicine and so oncology and treatments with cabcer is not something im knowledgeable on

Wasn't sure of the sickness was a result of the chemo tablets or lasting effects even when not taking then

I have IM Metoclopramide if it gets any worse as next step up or I could have Dr to prwscribe ondonsatron 4mg or cyclizine 50mg oral

My sickness seems ok at the moment xx
