Hi

I finished my treatment on Thursday. Although I am aware side effects will ramp up in next 3 weeks before starting to get better, is it normal for the skin to be split and bleeding, disintegrating and weeping? Just want to check that this is to be expected and not infected. Can't show team as now back in Guernsey. Any advice on what to use to help. Hospital still advocating salt washes and fresh air and no creams.

  • Hi

Well done on finishing treatment. I can't say if this is normal or not just that it wasn't my situation. Out of the creams my hospital used i would try flaminal hydro or flaminal forte. Forte is the stronger one and can be used for what you are describing. The fact that my hospital provided them makes me think that what has happened with your skin is normal for some. Rest up and recover. Sending hugs. Xx

  • Yes it's normal.... and painful!!! It gets better. Are you SLATHERING with cream??? I ruined so many sweat pants by constantly reapplying cream...I forget the name.... but any helps... and it worked amazingly.

  • Sorry....I see doctors said "no creams". Mine said "plenty" and it helped a lot!!

  • Hi , sorry to read you’re suffering . My skin was like that , it’s horrible . I found using Flaminal forte really helped, I tried Polymen dressings but couldn’t keep them in place.
Mine started to improve about 3 weeks post treatment . When it was at its worse I got a review at the hospital and they just told me to up the analgesia .

    Hope yours improves very soon

    Sharon

  • Yes it’s normal. I found the turning point was Flamizine cream (prescription only) and that improved it so quickly. I found the Forte stung a little.

Polymem dressings also really helped at night (folded up and between the cheeks and a pair of knickers to keep in place).

I also advocate salt baths but I could not have done this without cream.

My cancer centre gave me so much cream and I also went back after two weeks for a review as I was struggling a bit. I’d be asking them  to get a prescription to your gp in Guernsey if they can.

I really hope you get some help and relief. I have an unopened flaminel forte, nu gel and polymem if you get desperate I can send them to you.

  • Thankyou. I can't understand why Southampton hospital are saying no creams as most other people were advised to get it. I think it is time for me to get something Slight smile

  • Thanks Sharon,  I will look at getting Flaminal Forte. Do you know if it is prescription only?

  • Thankyou. It's good to know this is normal and just part of it. Did yours start to heal after about 3 weeks? I will see if local GP will prescribe me Flamizine cream.

  • Forte is not prescription only.

  • Mine started as soon as I had the Flamizine. Literally the day after I saw an improvement. I’m now 18 days post treatment and skin is nearly healed. Just a couple of very small  areas now.
