2 weeks into treatment

Hi all...

Just wanted to give an update as the last couple of weeks have been a bit of a blur. I'm so fatigued and overwhelmed with the schedule most of the time that I've not been on here for a little while.

Just completed the second week of radiotherapy and so far my skin is OK. Just starting to get a bit sore underneath and I have that 'mild sunburn' feeling on the back of my legs. Had the IV chemo and chemo tabs last week and that completely wiped me out by the weekend! Been in A+E twice, one of those times an ambulance was sent for me in the middle of the night by the hospital after a blood test result. Was quite a shock having them banging my door down while I was in bed asleep! My white blood cells were a little high apparently, but I ended up back at home none the less. By Monday morning I felt absolutely terrible and called the emergency chemo number, who advised me to go back. Turned out to be a water infection which I now have antibiotics for and have had to pause the chemo tabs until Monday.

On the plus side, although I was suffering horrendous pain, the last couple of days have been much better in that respect and I haven't needed to take anywhere near as much pain relief. Fingers crossed things stay this way! I know some of you found that pain decreased fairly quickly once treatment started, so I really hope that's what is happening with me.

Overall, despite the tiredness and a bit of a rocky start, I'm feeling a lot better than I have been and am looking forward to having the weekend at home so I can try put my house back together Sweat smile

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

Jenna xx

  • Hello Jenna

I am so relieved to hear from you, and what a worrying time having an ambulance call for you in the middle of the night.  I am pleased that it has been sorted out and hope you are feeling a bit better now; the fatigue goes with the territory unfortunately and I would just go with it.  Take as much rest as you need, your body uses a huge amount of energy trying to repair itself after the onslaught of chemo/radiotherapy.

And it is wonderful that your pain has lessened.  I very much hoped that this would happen and it is proof that in spite of everything else the treatment is working.

    Don't overdo it this weekend!

    Gentle hug

    Irene xx

  • Thank you Irene :) the state of my house is driving me nuts lol but I'll just do what I feel able to. This is the first day in quite some time that I've felt more like my normal self for a while. I'm aware there's going to be a lot more to deal with along the way, but shall just try to take each day as it comes xx

  • Hi Jenna

Im sorry you have had a rough time of it, but pleased your pain has eased. You are nearly half way keep ticking those days. I can so relate to how you are feeling about your house and I'm 7 months post. Joy

  • Hi Jenna, maybe get a cleaner in , pop an request on FB if your on. Or ask around ,

. If they just make an inroad it will stop you worrying. I miss taking my dogs a walk so much, but have a dog walker , while I can't, it's just one less thi g to worry about. Good luck and I'm glad your feeling a little better.

  • Thanks AGP Slight smile

I'm actually doing a lot better atm and had more energy over the weekend to get things back in order. Been off the chemo tabs for a week due to being on antibiotics, so that has probably helped. Back on them today so will see how I go xx

  • Hi  ,

You've certainly had a bumpy start but I’m pleased you’re feeling that things have settled a bit & you're feeling a bit better.

I remember that happened to my eldest daughter once, she’d had a blood test & it came back that her potassium was sky high & an ambulance arrived for her at 2am & knocked everyone out of bed! She was fast asleep & well in herself so once they saw she was ok they agreed to let me take her first thing in the morning to repeat her bloods, we went to the hospital at 8am & she had 2 further blood tests that were normal, they think the first sample had been left too long & had gone off before it was tested!

As others have already mentioned fatigue is a side effect from the treatment but as long as you listen to your body & rest when it tells you to then carry on doing your thing. I was refurbishing a dining room set going into week 3 of my treatment, it took me a little longer than it normally would but I did it.

    Enjoy your weekend.

  • Hi Nikki,

It's certainly a shock getting woken like that! I suppose it's good that they're quick to check you're OK tho.

Yes, I'm finding it takes a bit longer to get stuff done atm too. Actually ventured into town for an hour today and have been cooking a bit more, which is an improvement. I do tire easily tho so not pushing it too much!
