Pregabalin and vision issues

Hello all,

I've been on Pregabalin for the nerve pain that Oxy doesn't touch, but now my vision is going wonky. I have blurry vision after about 30 seconds of reading something (like text messages) and also a weird vibration movement that my husband says he can't see. Talked with my GP and apparently with Pregabalin, this can get worse and may not be alleviated when I stop taking it post-treatment, so we are switching to Gabapentin (titrating in before my treatment starts on Monday.)

Has anyone else had these issues with Pregabalin and had them go away after you stopped taking it? Asking because if the Gabapentin doesn't work on the pain, I'll have to go back to Pregabalin.

Thanks all

  • Hello Wavedancer

I am sorry that you are having what must be quite an unpleasant side effect.  I have no experience of this as I have never taken Pregabalin so can't help at all but I am hoping that Gabapentin is as effective.  I also hope you get more helpful answers too.

  • Hi Wavedancer

I'm sorry you are having bad side affects. Like Irene75359 I have no experience as have never taken pregabalin. Just thought id respond to keep your question at the top. Hopefully someone who has will pick up on your post. Sending hugs. Xx

  • Oh gosh   these side effects don’t sound very pleasant at all!! As with Irene & Bungle1 I don’t have any personal experience with Pregabalin but I’ve got everything crossed for you that the Gabapentin works it’s magic & you have no side effects from that!

  • Hi Wavedancer

This is a medication I'm very familiar with. Have been on and off it for a few years for anxiety. May I ask, what dose you have been prescribed? I've not had visual issues myself, but I did find that I became tolerant to it over time and weaned off as a result, because although it was helping a lot at first, it's benefits soon wore off. Most recently weaned off only a few months ago (before my cancer diagnosis) xx

  • Hi JenW, I was only on 50mg, but the vision thing started almost as soon as I went from once a day to twice. I also had a weird vibration thing happening inside my eyes as well. The Gabapentin is still being titrated up, so I still have a lot of nerve pain and blurriness. All I know is that with the Gab, these issues will leave once I am off the medication.

  • Hi Pelma, I'm so glad it helped you! I don't wear glasses, so this was quite a shock. I'm a designer so need my eyes in order to work (as most people do!) so knowing that my sight will return to normal is a relief!

  • Let's hope this works for you Fingers crossedPurple heart it's horrible dealing with pain day and night xx
