Morning everyone ,
I’m now 20 days post treatment .Most of my skin has peeled and is now pinking up and comfortable . My anus however still feels very sore , it feels quite raw and stinging . I’ve also developed haemorrhoids which aren’t helping . My bowels movements are soft and quite urgent at times .
I’m using Faminal forte and Aveeno to moisturise and having baths .
Is there anything else , I should be doing to help my anus heal ? It’s still very itchy at times too .
Thanks , I really value your advice .
Best wishes to all x
Hey Goldie65
I'm a week behind you (pun intended) and can appreciate the discomfort you're experiencing.
I found that flaminal forte was no longer needed and was in fact drying out my skin - I moved to sudocrem for the sore bits of skin and coconut oil for the rest - I'm lathering that on - including my butt hole - it's helping me for sure and it's naturally antibacterial as well as a really good moisturizer... I'm still using the water wipes....
And oh my god - my BMs.. they are super soft (hurrah) but they are urgent. I've started the fodmap protocol yesterday to help reduce inflammation and hopefully slow down the BMs.
I just need my body to catch up with my mind - I want to get cracking with living life however my body seems to be - you can have 5 minutes of activity and then we need to sit down lol
Everyday....little improvements - and so grateful to have completed treatment! Hope things improve for you too

Thanks for your reply Ali ,
Glad to hear you’re improving . I think you’re right about the Flaminal forte and not needing it now , it was so good at healIng up my other burns and tears , that I’ve carried on with it . Have ordered some coconut oil to apply and have some put on some baby Aveeno cream and E 45 this morning .
Diet wise I’m being very careful , have made some bone broth to have which is good for colitis .
I’m taking little walks everyday with my husband who is recovering from surgery he had to have after falling and tearing his tendons between his quads and his knee , at least he’s not walking his usual fast pace which suits me now .
Wishing you well in your recovery and lots of healing .
Best wishes x
Hi Goldie,
Maybe you should get in touch with your medical people, they have a big range of things to help, and your problems are very common.
My only suggestions as far as self help goes would be that you try Sudocrem - I read on here somewhere that it was good at healing, and very soothing too, but you might want to check with one of your medical people. The other thing is to try some anti histamine tablets to help with the itching, I know that has been suggested too.
I found my bottom was pretty sore for a good few weeks, so carry on with the things you are doing and maybe use some painkillers if you think they might help. If paracetamol etc don't help, again I would ask for some more effective help.
Hello Goldie
I was exactly the same - all I could guess was that the internal burns in the anus take a lot longer to heal than the external skin, which meant the poos carried on being painful not matter how soft they were. And we can't do anything about the traffic there which doesn't help. Haemorrhoids too, they came with a vengeance when I had a bad bout of constipation after treatment finished.
You have had some excellent advice, all I can add is my own experience. I had that extreme urgency in the early days and I didn't dare go out unless I had emptied my bowels, but even then the need would really take me by surprise and I had a few close calls. I really wondered where it was all coming from!
And don't forget f you need reassurance please get in touch with your treating team.
Hope your bottom and bowels calm down soon.
Irene xx
Thanks Mrs Vanilla ,
I think maybe I’m impatient to recover . I give my team a call to see if there’s anything else I can use to help . I think they’ll say I have to give it time . Just wondered if anyone had found something that speeded healing .
Best wishes x
Thank you Irene ,
I don’t find it as painful having a poo , the cleaning after is very sore , I’m using water wipes and baths .
Think I’ll just have to give it more time and keep well moisturised with a good barrier cream .
Best wishes x
You mentioned you are having baths - have you got a sitz bath? It fits over the toilet seat and you fill it with water. Then you can dip your poor bottom in it several times a day, or even 'go' into the water, some people find that soothing and it's easy to just tip it all down the loo and give it a clean.
Yes i’ve got a Sitz bath but haven’t got on with it , I feel sitting in the Sitz bath and toilet causes too much pressure in my bum , I’ve been more comfortable laying in the bath . I haven’t sat on the toilet for weeks, have stood hovering over it , find it easier and less painful .
My baths are pretty shallow , just enough water to cover my bum and bits . X
Hi Goldie,
I am in a similar position to you. I am 5 weeks post treatment, my skin has healed but my anus is still very sore and having a BM is very painful and I seem to need to go all the time despite eating very little. I have a really good day and feel back to normal and then the next day I feel terrible again and retreat back to bed in the afternoon. I guess it’s just going to take longer to heal and patience is very important, something I am not good at !
Hi JET1414 ,
Sorry to hear you’re still suffering . I seem to just go twice in the morning but then have wind for a lot of the day that I don’t have control over . Hoping things improve soon , at least all the other skin affected has healed.
Wishing you well and hope things get better for you very soon x
