My mums having treatment for anal cancer which has spread to the lymph nodes. She’s on these two chemos on a 6 week cycle with immunotherapy.

im aware that chemo impacts are different for everyone however we would like to know if it does work, would you see the benefit after 1/2 cycles or would you have to do the whole course? Bit vague I know. She will get scans every couple of months I believe.

just looking for people’s experiences/info on the above? They have mentioned level 2 ad level 3 chemo aswel. What is that exactly and how does it work.

any info on this would be greatly appreciated, positive if possible. It’s been difficult seeing her on the chemo at the hospital but unfortunately that’s the situation.

  • Hello Alex

Well, that's the first convention I have heard of here in the UK.  Hopefully they will pick up lots of hints you can pass on here.  I seemed to remember I was fine, not too tired, then I went through my diaries, and I am complaining of feeling tired all the time, so my memory hasn't served me well!  I lost a lot of weight in the early days, It wasn't the treatment, I was just extremely stressed and found it difficult to finish a meal, or even sit down to one.

Unfortunately any type of scan induces extreme stress in most of us.  Apart from the extra PET scan I had at the beginning, mine were at the three month mark and at the six-month mark.  I remember being absolutely terrified going into to see the oncologist afterwards.  What she did say after the six-month scan was that all the changes had slowed down, but that that was entirely to be expected, the really big differences occur early in the treatment.  But, I should stress I had treatment tailored for me and your Mum's might be completely different even though the same chemo is being used.

But I think you are absolutely right in advising a measured approach.  But I do understand only too well how difficult that can be.

    Irene xx
