I discovered in May that I have two ACC tumours, one in my mouth and one between my larynx and oesophagus. The surgeons advised just removing the more dangerous of the 2, and I’ve had the one in my mouth removed and reconstructive surgery to replace my cheekbone and upper palate. 6 weeks post-op now, with radiotherapy coming up in mid-August. Still struggling from the effects of the surgery - swollen eye which still doesn’t quite shut, numb face, hole at the back of my mouth which allows food into my nose, and trouble eating and speaking - but all better than the alternative, which was a year before the tumour curtailed my life!
My second tumour isn’t affecting me yet, but at some point may have to be removed by a total laryngectomy. All very scary, and hard to believe just 3 months ago I felt fit and healthy! Looking forward to radiotherapy being over and starting the road to recovery.
