Just wanted to say hello. Our son was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma, a rare primary bone cancer, 3 years ago. He had a year of treatment and has clear scans so far. He is 27 now. He’s really struggling with fatigue and recurrent colds and other viruses. Chemo for bone cancer is pretty grim and he had numerous blood transfusions to get him ready for the next round and he spent almost a year in hospital. But he’s here and has started work. I struggle massively with scan anxiety, which we are approaching, probably in January. Not quite sure as he has moved over to adult care.
Hi Dicey and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
That's great to read that your son has had clear scans but I can understand the anxiety that builds before the results of each scan.
I'm not a member of this group but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
You might also find it helpful to join and post in the bone cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who either have this type of cancer or are connected to someone who does.
If you'd like to join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your son's diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hi Dicey, what a tough time you have had. Your son is so young. I do know how you feel, my daughter has breast cancer, diagnosed 18 moths ago. She had 8 chemo cycles and 3 surgeries, followed by 15 sessions of radiotherapy. Now two thirds of the way through a further year of chemo. It's brutal - but has to be to fight this horrible disease.
Daughter has also been fighting recurrent colds and infections this past couple of months. Very debilitating, especially with the chemo nausea and other side effects. You feel so helpless, don't you ... as mums, we just want to protect our children and 'make everything right'. But sometimes, you just can't do that. So hard.
Clear scans so far is great news, hold on to that. Sending you love and strength. xx
Thank you so much for your reply. And all the best to you and your daughter as she completes chemo. It really is horrendous and as a mom you just want to fix it.
My son has gone into work today and sounds better when he called. He just needs to catch a break which is hard with all the viruses around at the moment. Love to you too xxx
