Our little one is going through treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. It’s been an absolute whirlwind 7 months and we’ve just got about 6 weeks of main treatment to go. Everything is going ok and there is no visible sign of the disease now. After this he will do the 2 year maintenance programme. I think I’m now starting to feel the effects of what he’s gone through. How do you live with this

  • Hi  I am sorry to hear about your little one going through treatment for ALL. I am Mike and I help out around our various blood cancer groups.

I don’t have ALL but was diagnosed in 1999 with a rare, incurable but treatable type of NHL (CTCL) Stage 4a so in some way I know this journey rather well but can’t even imagine having a little one going through this. We do have our Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia forum but I am not aware of anyone in the same position at the moment but a good place to talk with others about the various treatments.

Can I highlight Leukaemia Care UKs top Leukaemia support and information charity who run online support groups for family and friends.

The Macmillan Support Line is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via Webchat and Email too. This service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear. You may also find our Ask an Expert section helpful but do allow a few working days for a reply.

Talking to people face to face can be very helpful but during these strange times it’s not that available but do check to see if any Local Macmillan Support in your area has opened up. Do also check out for a local Maggie's Centre in your area as these folks are amazing especially with children.

Always around if you need further help in navigating the community.

    All the very best ((hugs))
