When does it get better? (breast cancer)

Hi, I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year and had gone through the whole lot (surgery, chemo, radiation, hormone therapy). I was told I am on remission but it doesn't feel that way because I still have to go through monthly injections, 6-monthly infusions, blood tests, still taking Letrozole tablets and Abemaciclib. I am experiencing really bad bone and joint pains due to the tablets I'm taking and it's taking a toll on my mental health. I don't enjoy family trips as much because of the pain and this is frustrating me. I easily get angry, and feel sad when I'm alone. I am no longer my old happy self.

I am considering stopping the tablets but I know that I might regret it eventually. So I want to know, have an idea when it gets better? Does it get better?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but so sorry to hear about your journey to date.

I do see that you have already joined and received a reply to your post in the

      Breast cancer for the under-50s

    …….. support group.

This group is a safe place to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support.

Based on my 26 years rollercoaster with 4 different cancers that the journey can be challenging….. but it is very important to talk with your clinical team with regards to stopping any medication as they are the only people who know how this would effect you in your specific situation.

As always the Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits and financial guidance or just a listening ear.

Talking to people ‘face to face’ can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.

Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community……. all the very best.
