Just got to the end of 5 years of breast cancer treatment and have been discharged, that should be good news but my Mother has recently died from breast cancer after hers came back in her lungs, it's not Bracca 1 or 2 but estrogen positive breast cancer the exact same as mine. My worry now is that mine will be back too, I've been given no help, my anastrozol prescription has run out and I have to go back to mammograms every 3 years not annual. My sister however has never had breast cancer but gets annual mammograms. So my questions for you all are: what's the likelihood of the cancer coming back? Also should I fight for annual mammograms?

I am sorry your mum has recently died of breast cancer and that you have also had breast cancer treatment. If your mum didn’t have a BRCA1 or 2 gene defect then she can’t have passed it to you. Unfortunately lots of people get breast cancer and oestrogen positive breast cancer is the most common type, so it’s likely to be a horrible coincidence that you have both had breast cancer, rather than being something that runs in your family. I think only your medical team can advise whether there would be benefit in having oestrogen inhibitors for a longer time or having more frequent mammograms. Most people don’t have a recurrence.
