Hello everyone
I recently went through lung cancer screening at my local hospital. I'm 60, have previously been a smoker (I gave up 14 years ago), and recently found out my biological mother died at 53 from lung cancer. Given my history they suggested I have the CT scan. I am healthy, active, reasonably fit, so was expecting an all clear, but was completely floored when about a month ago I got a 'suspected cancer' diagnosis. I have since had a a lung function test, PET scan, and biopsy which have confirmed an adenocarcinoma in my right lung. I do think myself lucky, caught early T1c and no signs so far of spreading, and I am now awaiting a date for a lobectomy. But every waking hour of every day (and night) is taken up with worry. Not just about the cancer, but the operation too. I have told my wife, two daughters, and a best friend and they have all been brilliantly supportive. But what do a I tell my increasingly frail 100 year old mum, who I see everyday in the care home and will know something is up? What do I tell other close family members? I have my own small business which I'll need to take time off from. And a hundred other worries that keep popping into my head. I am not nessasarily looking for answers from this forum, it's just good to sound off to others who will understand!
