Oesophageal cancer

Hi there,

I’m wondering if anyone can help please. My husband has received chemoradiotherapy for Oesophageal cancer. This treatment finished at the end of June and he is due to have an oesophagectomy in the next two weeks. He has been told to put on weight and has been doing really well until the last couple of weeks. Now he is  finding it impossible to consume even soft foods ,milkshakes or even just liquids because the pain in the oesophagus is so bad. Soluble paracetamol and antacid and oxetacaine have not helped at all despite following guidelines. We have spoken with acute oncology, his cancer nurse, the GP and 111 but nobody seems to know why it has suddenly become so painful and what else can be done before the op. If anyone has experience of this I’d be grateful for any advice you can offer. Thank you.
