I have recently been diagnosed with SCC: Squamous Cell Carcinoma. I have developed a huge lump under my left eye. It started as a small spot in May. By early June it looked like a small wart so sought medical advice and was sent to the dermatology unit at the local hospital. After a biopsy I was diagnosed with the cancer. It is still growing: the lump fills the space between my eye and the top of my nose and has spawned a new lump behind it. It is large and hard and black, almost like a lump of lava. I cannot wear my glasses properly any more and it is affecting my vision. I am waiting for a date for an operation to remove it but I am desperately worried about my eye as it is so close. I had some scans last week but no results as yet. I feel abandoned in the silence. Time seems to have stood still and life has stopped. It is now 3 months since this worry began but it feels like a lifetime. I can see this lump grow and change every time I look in the mirror.
I am not ill or in pain though the discomfort is increasing. The doctors said they did not think the cancer had spread but this lump certainly has and any operation is going to be difficult. Am I being unrealistic in expecting/ hoping for things to move more quickly. I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer before and things seemed to move with more urgency than at present.
Has anybody else had something similar??

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I've not had SCC I have had other types of cancer including skin cancer so know how stressful waiting can be.
