Hello,
MRI scan in relation to another condition revealed a small legion on my liver. Although this has not yet been confirmed as cancer, the urgency that my medical team displayed in calling me in does not bode well.
I have PET and CT scans scheduled for next week. I am anxious but calm. The fact that I have had cancer twice before probably helps, although the last episode was 20 years ago.
I only received this news yesterday and I am grappling with when to share with my wife. She struggled coping 20 years ago and the last thing I want is to put her through this again. I am trying to balance the pros and cons of telling her now or waiting until I have a confirmed diagnosis, one way or the other.
Anyway, right now I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Hi Aspire and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but so sorry to hear about your ongoing investigations.
Having been on my cancer journey for over 26 years (first diagnosed in 1999 at 43) with two very rare, hard to treat types of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphomas (one incurable) then Asbestosis and recently Prostate Cancer that navigating this journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but talking with and getting support from people who have walked or are walking the ‘exact same' journey can help a lot.
…… although over these 26 years I have been investigated for other possible cancers and eventually nothing was found…… as a family we work to the simple rule……. ‘Until we are actually told there is cancer - there is not a problem’…… this helps to control the noise between the ears.
If you do find that you have Liver Cancer the Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so you can look to join and put up your own post in our dedicated…….
…….. support group.
As always the Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support or just a listening ear.
Talking to people ‘face to face’ can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.
Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
