Finding life very difficult at the moment

My husband was diagnosed with high grade glioblastoma in Dec 2025. Had the tumour debulked end of January then had infection in bone flap which they removed. To add to this he then had infection in another area of brain and a chest infection. Spent 7 weeks in hospital including spells in ITU. He eventually came home in April very weak. The scans showed that the tumour remained stable through all of this, so they wanted to wait and watch rather than starting treatment so that he could get stronger. End of June he had symptoms and the tumour showed signs of growing so he had 3 weeks of radiotherapy which ended 3 weeks ago. Its been a roller coaster of emotions for both of us. What I am struggling with is that he is more exhausted now than when he was having his treatment, there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. Can only keep everything crossed and hope in the coming weeks he will get stronger.

  • Hi

Welcome to our community, I hope you find it both informative and supportive.

When my wife had sepsis she ended up with a week in ITU and about 7 weeks in hospital in total and I saw the impact it had on her, so can relate to the weakness from that.

Looking at Side effects of radiotherapy I can see how tiredness can grow while going through radiotherapy and and continue for some time afterwards so fingers crossed that is what is happening with your husband. There are some suggestions there too for things that can help.

New to the community is a bit like a front page for our community, there are a number of more specific groups that also might be helpful to you including Glioblastoma multiforme brain tumour forum but you might also be interested in our Carers only forum where we can help support you. I know I came to realise that when I got help I was better able to help my wife.

    <<hugs>>
