My husband  was diagnosed with Renal cancer 9 weeks yesterday. It has been a rollercoaster since then.  From being told operation via keyhole. To being told  that the cancer had spread to the vena cava  and caused a blood clot. Which had to be dealt with daily blood thinners by me . To run up of operation  dealing with urologist and cardiology department  and sometimes not sure who was given us what advice. To be told he might not survive the 12 hour operation. To a stay in hospital. 3 days in Critical  Care.  And then 7 days after operation  off you go home.

No what to expect  package. How to navigate him being worse now than before he went into hospital. And lots of stuff since. Break down and bleeding from huge scar to be told by surgeons its normal    And I feel very abandoned.

I suffer from Fibromyalgia  and constantly checking up on him its exhausting.   Sorry to overload and overshare.

  • Hi Lisa/ and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I've had different cancer diagnoses to your husband I know how it impacts the whole family.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the kidney cancer group, as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as your husband, and also the carers only group where you can share your worries and get emotional support.

To join, just click on the links I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your husband's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    All the best for today
