I am new to this and finding it difficult to navigate so please bear with me. Earlier this year I was diagnosed with a rare Sarcoma on my groin tricky one to operate because of the position so following major surgery was told once wound healed which took approximately 10 weeks it would then be radiotherapy. Unfortunately following a scan that was scrapped and I was told it had spread to both lungs, no cure and I have 12 months to live. Devastated, they now say chemo would be my choice yet to have follow up on this, I am guessing chemo would not give me much longer than 12 months and probably not worth putting myself through it. Any thoughts wound be much appreciated. Finding this very hard to deal with emotionally.
Hi again Agetha I am ever so sorry to read your story.
I know from experience having been on my cancer journey for over 26 years that navigating this journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but talking with and getting support from people who are walking the ‘exact same' journey can help a lot.
The Community is actually divided into dedicated Support Groups (Discussion Rooms) so can I recommend that you look to join and put up your own post in our dedicated…….
Living with incurable cancer - incurable patients only
….. support groups.
Thrsr group are safe places to talk to others with a similar diagnosis, to ask questions and get support.
To connect in with the group please click on the link above……. then once the group page opens you will see a [Black - Click to Join - Banner] at the bottom of the page, click in this box and this will then confirm that you have joined the group.
You can then introduce yourself to the group by putting up your very own post by clicking [+ Create new post] or [+] in the top right of the group page.
You can copy and paste the text from this post into your new post.
As always the Macmillan Support Line is open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits and financial guidance or just a listening ear.
Talking to people ‘face to face’ can be very helpful so do check to see if you have any Local Support in your area, do also check for a local Maggie's Centre as these folks are amazing.
Do get back to me if you need further help navigating the community.
Oh my word you are one amazing person I cannot believe what you have been through, such a trooper. Reading your story made me very emotional and thank you so much for sharing and being so helpful, please can I talk to you more although I am very much a novice on this, just hope I don’t loose you through my incompetence on here. It really does help to talk to others, it is a very difficult journey made much harder if you are alone with it. You have made me feel not alone in this, thank you so much.
Hi again Agetha when you want to find the groups you have joined just click on ‘YOUR’ community name Agetha then click on activity (7da5dfd90a33409e8bcf301ed0aa9497)
If you want to find the discussions you have started or interacted with click on ‘Activity’ near the top of ‘your’ area and scroll through your posts.
This New to Community area is like the Community Reception Desk….. so like a conference centre, not a lot of people stay around the reception area…… as that all move along to the dedicated groups.
With this in mind I see that you have not as yet joined the groups I have highlighted especially the Living with incurable cancer - incurable patients only group. Posting in this group will connect you with others on the same pathway….
I am always around to chat just come back to this post and you will find me.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
