Neck Cancer Patient Expressing Frustration

I have recently been diagnosed with HPV P16-positive stage 2 cancer in my tonsils, which has metastasised to the lymph nodes in my neck. I am experiencing considerable frustration due to my urgent need to begin treatment; however, the wait for appointments is quite challenging. I would greatly appreciate any advice on how to effectively prepare for the upcoming six weeks of radiotherapy and six rounds of chemotherapy in the interim.

  • Hi KWP,

Sorry to hear your news, my advice is to stay calm as much as you can, I know from my experience that it's a feeling of wasted time but trust your team as they will be preparing and discussing the treatment plan and in particular the Radiation treatment which has to be planned meticulously so that the radiation doesn't spread out too much. The other tip if you can get plenty of high calories in you and stay well hydrated as you will have to stay same hydration when the treatment starts.

While our cancer is deemed aggressive it responds very well to radiation and is one of the most curable cancers. A few weeks makes little difference so try not to stress
