Hi there I’m new here & this is my first post.

I had a BCC removal from my conchal bowl 5 weeks ago.  I just wondered if anyone here has had swelling inside the ear canal that is causing sound loss & muffled hearing. I feel I’ve had very littleSun with faceost op care & feel a little in the dark. I’d be really interested to know of any similar experiences.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I've had treatment for BCC but not in the area that you have.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join us over in the skin cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as you.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hello Windywoo,

I do not have an answer about the swelling in your ear canal, but I can share a similar experience with a swelling inside of my nose following an MOHS removal of an infiltrative BCC of the nose.in 2025. The skin flap has now healed but I couldn’t understand why I had  a tender firm swelling inside my nose on the side of the skin flap. Hospital staff wouldn’t or couldn’t give an explanation.
The swelling has now gone down after almost 10 months following the op.. I found an article on the American site which said it was probably where blood had pooled following the op and would be slowly reabsorbed. So, I have accepted this what had happened.
I do hope you find an answer and wish you a good recovery from your op..

  • Thanks lupino.  I’m seeing my consultant tomorrow so I’m sure to have some answers then.  It’s probably me being impatient and not realising things take time to settle down and heal.  I’m pleased that your healing is going well.  It’s just difficult knowing when the end point will be and I suppose each one’s recovery is so different & maybe that’s why the medical staff can be reticent about timelines but that make you feel like you’re fumbling in the dark.  Good that you found a good resource to explain some of the issues and pleased that things are going in the right direction.

  • Many thanks for your reply, Windywoo. May all go well with your appointment tomorrow.
