Hi,
I don’t really know what to say, my mum has been diagnosed with an inoperable cancer and we’ve been told its life limiting but she is going to start Chemo to try and have more time. I feel so overwhelmed, i want to be strong but i can’t stop crying. I don’t know what to do.
Take it one step at a time. Focus on the chemo, supporting your mum through it session by session. Keep notes of how she feels throughout the cycle so that you know when the good and bad days are (this lets you plan for days out, visits, etc). Let the chemo do its thing. Usually, you will get indications of how its going (eg easing of symptoms, bloods, a mid way scan) so if you can hold off till that point and just focus on the treatment itself, that's a good way to go for the time being.
Hi Lizzyp17 and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I was the one with cancer I know how scared you're probably feeling right now.
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the family and friends group as you'll then connect directly with others who have someone they love living with cancer.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
We also have cancer specific groups where you can chat to others who have the same type of cancer as your mum. As you haven't said what type of cancer she has, I can't give you a direct link but you could either let me know or take a look through this list.
It would be great if you could put something about your mum's diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Sending virtual ((hugs))
