I start chemo this coming Friday. Oxaliplatin followed by 21 days of capecitabine 2x daily. 4 cycles
I’m scared about the threat of larynx spasm during/ following the Ox. I understand it’s brought on by cold drinks, cold air. Has anyone experienced it? Is it as scary as it sounds? I’m due to go to an event in a church building the evening of my IV. Should I cancel??
Does anyone still go to the gym during their treatment? Is it safe? I also look after my 1 year old grandchild 1 day a week. Obviously there’s a heightened risk of catching ‘nursery’ bugs. Will this affect my treatment, or just make me poorly with sniffs and coughs etc.
soo many questions… I’d be grateful for any input. TIA
Hi Beattie and a very warm welcome to the Macmillan Community but I am so sorry to hear about your cancer diagnosis and your concerns about treatment.
I know from experience having been on my cancer journey for coming up to 26 years with two very rare, hard to treat types of Non Hodgkin’s Lymphomas (one incurable) that navigating this journey can be such a stressful and challenging time but talking with and getting support from people who have walked or are walking the ‘exact same' journey can help a lot be it patients or family members.
This New to Community area is like our reception desk where we look to direct you to the best part of the Community for you to get support.
The Community is actually divided into dedicated Cancer Support Groups (Discussion Rooms)………… but you don’t say what exact type of cancer you have….. but if you tell me your type of cancer I can direct you to the best groups…….. but you can also have a look through this link Cancer Specific Groups where you will find all our dedicated cancer support groups listed.
These groups are safe places to talk to others who may have a similar diagnosis, treatment experience, to ask questions and get support from members who are navigating the exact same journey.
Hi Mike, thank you. I had stage 2 rectal cancer, and the tectum was removed, but during surgery lymph nodes were removed and it has spread into 2 /20 nodes, hence the post surgery chemo
Sorry to hear this Beattie … you may want to join and post in our dedicated…..
Bowel (colon and rectum) cancer
Ileostomy, colostomy and stoma support….…….support groups
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
