Hi, my daughter had breast cancer, she had a mastectomy, chemo and then radiotherapy. She has been told she could be going into menopause, but at the moment she is having extremely heavy periods for 2 weeks at a time. Since finishing her treatment she has gained a large amount of weight. She does not over eat and she is doing loads of exercise but every week another couple of kilos goes on. Doctors are saying she can’t have HRT treatment and are offering no solution to the weight gain. Does anyone have any ideas or solutions? Many thanks.
Hi GratefulGran and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and I'm sorry to read that your daughter is struggling with her weight since finishing her treatment for breast cancer.
The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the breast cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as your daughter and who may have had a similar experience.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
It would be great if you could put something about your daughter's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
I had a bilateral mesectomy and am also going through menopause due to my treatment. I have also gained alot of weight over the last year due to my treatment. So I do feel your daughters pain as espicially my doctors wont help either. I wish someone would also help me with my weight but ìve just got to wait till all my treatment is finished, which I would also suggest the same for your daughter. Make sure she is being kind on herself and we all know what a tough fight it is just to keep upright! Sending her lots of kindness and I hope all her treatment goes ok, then she can look at her weight ! X.
