.  Throat Cancer (treatment finished on Feb 6th 2026 ) -has left me with a dry mouth and loss of taste ,wondering what strategies or products might help, both during the day and overnight .

  • Hi Artist.

You are 7 weeks out of treatment and have a long way to go but things will get better. Your main background salivary glands are trashed forever but lots of little ones dotted around inside your mouth do slowly recover. I carried water round with me for a good year taking sips when my mouth dried out. I get Salivex pastilles on prescription but the most helpful thing for me is to chew gum. If you can tolerate mint then Lidl/Aldi sugar free gum is as good as anything. If not then Amazon do a range of other flavours. I get Bioxtra mouthwash from my GP too. There are lots of gels like Biotene and Oralieve available too. If you email Chris Curtis ( Chris@theswallows.org.uk  )at The Swallows Cancer Charity will send you a support box containing lots of different ones to try. It's free.

Taste does come back but slowly.
