Had my double mastectomy, lymph node biopsy and implant reconstruction just over 3wks ago.  I get my results tomorrow and nervous.  I had a "small, early and treatable" cancer, but given the prolific BC history in my family, I had been preparing for this for about 25yrs and so declined the lumpectomy and radiotherapy option and had the above elective surgery.

i initial felt really empowered by the decision but now I am sore, not sleeping and my god the itchiness and the weight of these implants is really kicking in.

I am sure it will get better but I cannot wait to be out of this sports bra 24/7 and able to sleep on my side!

  • Hi, your journey sounds very similar to mine, ive been waiting for a BC biagnosis in the post for years,  also have a terrible family history. Same as yourself ive opted straight for full masectomy with implants, though my op is being done in 2 stages. My surgeon didnt want the op to be to long. Had 1st op 6 weeks ago and healing well, try patting yourself when you get the itch, it may help relieve it a bit. Yeah wearing a bra 24/7 and showering etc, ugh. But its so worth it

  • You will be sleeping on your side in no time

  • Wishing you the very best with your recovery.  Just had the lymph node biopsy results back and all clear and so that is a huge milestone.  Now just a 3wk wait on the final results.  Thanks for the patting advice - the consultant has asked me to keep wearing a sports bra 24/7 for another 3wks and so invested in a new one as a celebration of the milestone!

  • Aw thanks appreciate that, incredible news your nodes are clear, such a relief, the waiting for results seems to take the longest time. Investing/ treating yourself to a new bra is an excellent idea, think ill do the same. My nodes and surrounding tissue also clear, you get treating yourself to more thi gs that bring you happiness, good luxk Heidi 54 x
