I had Bowel Cancer in 2021 and it has spread to lung June 2024.  It is very small and although I had chemotherapy at first when the oncologist suggested it could wait.  Following a pulmonary embolism in September 25 I have decided to just follow his advice and have not had any chemotherapy since June 25.  I have CT scans about 3 monthly intervals.

I had a look through the forums to see who it might be best to approach and I requested quotes from about 8 companies suggested in the Money Helper directory.  No one would give me a quote.  Can a few people who have recently obtained cancer cover give some information

Thank you to anyone who takes the trouble to reply.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and having had cancer twice, I know how tricky getting affordable travel insurance can be.

The best place to look for affordable travel insurance is over in the travel insurance group. To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, have a look through the threads there called Members recommended travel insurance and Recommended Travel Insurance, which you'll find on the first page. They are full of recommendations from other cancer patients who have got travel insurance.

I've personally used payingtoomuch.com and goodtogoinsurance.com but I didn't have the same cancer type as you.

I do hope you can get insurance so you can start planning those holidays.

  • Hello Qman,

Could I ask the names of the companies you approached that turned you down?

  • I didnt record the first two companies I contacted because I had no idea it would be so difficult. the last six are below and although I have a lot of medical issues I onl;y told most of them about the cancer because of the time it took to complete the forms.

    Medical Travel Compared.co.uk

    Holiday Extras

    Our Travel insurance

    Thomas Carrol

    Avanti

    Insure for travel

  • Thank you for your detailed reply, I had already looked 0n your linked forum but I didnt spend long because the last reply was over 3 years ago.  I have a number of other medical conditions and after a very long phone call I got a provisional Quote of £1350, most of the companies they dealt with declined to quote.  I will update the experience forum when I have finished searching but I think I may give up this year.

  • Hi

Although the threads were started over 3 years ago the vast majority, if not all, of the companies recommended are still valid.

I noticed in your reply to excavator that the majority of those you listed do not appear in the recommendations in the travel insurance group, so you still have lots more who specialise in providing insurance for cancer patients to try if you want to.

I hope you don't have to give up your plans.

  • Thanks for replying Qman. I'm trying to get a bigger picture of the travel insurance market for those of us affected by health issues including cancer and that's very useful.

Have you tried Albert & Eddie? It's a comparison site owned by the same group that also owns Holidaysafe and Insurancewith who both offer cover for cancer sufferers as well as other conditions. Their question set for quotations is also a little different to most of the rest. I got annual worldwide for wife and me for just under £500, they might be worth a try?

Hope you're successful, let us know if so.

    Derek.

  • Thanks Anne, When I looked at the recommended  and noticed the lack of postings I didnt search much more but I have now got some names from Excavator and will be trying them.  Out of interest the list I was using came from Money Helper who were recomended in a number of posts.

  • Thanks Derek I hope I can get a quote for something like £500 even if not world wide. I have booked a call back with Albert & Eddie they cant call until tomorrow.  I will try Holidaysafe to see if they quote.  Is it worth a poll to see who has the highest quote lol
