Secondary lung cancer

Hi,

  1. In November I had a call from NHS to say that a nodule on my lung that was discovered from the lung cancer screening programme was suspicious and I need further tests.  I had a PET scan in late November which came up with an 80% risk of cancer. The nodule was 10mm. I was refered to Guys and elected to have a lung resection. This was carried out in early January. OP went well and no issues after.   2 weeks ago I went back for results and was told that it was a metastasis from a sex chord stromal tumour.  They advised have been refered urgently to gynae with my local hospital.  Only minor inflammation of the pelvic area showed on scan.

From what I can make out this comes from the ovaries, however I had my womb, ovaries and follapion tubes removed 27 years ago due to endometriosis and fibroids. Have not seen specialist yet but have spoken to their cancer specialist nurse who was told me that at the MDM, they have decided to get the slides from Guys (to do their own tests) and want my notes from Hysterectomy as was done in a private hospital (via nhs) and there is very little in my gp file.  They have another meeting on Tuesday of this week and will discuss me again then. I asked if I could have another ct scan whilst waiting but they said wanted the info first.

I am so scared as from the research I have done I already have stage 4 cancer!!

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community, and although I've had different cancer diagnoses to you I know how scared you're probably feeling right now.

The online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you join the ovarian cancer and secondary lung cancer groups as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as you.

To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

When you feel up to it, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

    Sending virtual (((hugs)))
